Golden Ball (Brassica rapa) was first introduced in 1859 and has been popular ever since β a beautifully round, golden-yellow turnip with peppery-sweet flavor that many consider the finest-tasting turnip available. Perfectly shaped 3β4-inch amber globes with smooth skin, delicate-grained meaty flesh that is never woody, and a sweet, mellow, smooth flavor that improves with frost. Stores wonderfully. The greens are tasty too. 70 days.
Direct sow outdoors 4β6 weeks before last frost in spring, or in late summer for fall harvest. Sow seeds ΒΌ inch deep, 1 inch apart, in rows 12 inches apart. Thin to 4β6 inches for root production. Full sun to part shade. Keep soil consistently moist. Harvest at 70 days when roots reach 3β4 inches.
