German Giant is the radish that defies the rules. Most radishes turn hot, pithy, and fibrous as they grow β German Giant stays sweet, crisp, and mild at any size, from marble to baseball. These very large, round, bright red roots are a German heirloom that has become especially popular with Amish gardeners for its reliable flavor and impressive size. Immense roots can grow to the size of a baseball with no cracking, no heat, and no fibrous texture β just great mild flavor all the way through. Ready to harvest in just 29 days.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring (4β6 weeks before last frost) or late summer for a fall crop. Sow seeds Β½ inch deep, 1β2 inches apart, in rows 6β8 inches apart. Thin to 4β6 inches apart as seedlings emerge. Water consistently β irregular watering causes cracking. Harvest at 29 days or allow to grow larger β flavor remains mild. Succession sow every 2 weeks for continuous harvest.
