French Garden Bush Beans, Heirloom Seeds — The Classic Haricot Vert With 5–6-Inch Tender Pods, High Yields, and Gourmet Flavor

French Garden Bush Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is the classic haricot vert — a high-yielding, open-pollinated snap green bean prized by French chefs for its uniform size, exceptional tenderness, and refined flavor. Compact bush habit makes it ideal for containers, raised beds, garden plots, and greenhouses. Pods reach 5–6 inches with a crisp snap and vibrant green color. A nitrogen-fixing crop that improves soil health for future plantings. 50–60 days.

Why Grow French Garden Bush Beans?

  • Classic haricot vert — also known as French green beans — uniform, tender, and gourmet-quality
  • 5–6 inch pods — crisp, vibrant green, snap variety eaten whole
  • High-yielding bush habit — no staking or support needed
  • Compact and versatile — thrives in containers, raised beds, and garden plots
  • Nitrogen-fixing — improves soil health for future plantings
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F — beans do not transplant well. Till soil 6–8 inches deep and incorporate compost or well-rotted manure before planting. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 2–4 inches apart, in rows 18–24 inches apart. Full sun required. Water consistently at soil level — avoid overhead watering to prevent disease. Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Rotate crops annually. Harvest when pods are 4–6 inches long, firm, and crisp — before seeds begin to bulge. Pick frequently to encourage continuous production.
