Forest Fire — The Extra Early Heirloom Tomato With Firm, Split-Resistant Fruits on Dwarf Bushy Plants

Forest Fire is an exceptional extra-early heirloom tomato bred by Tim Peters of Peters Seed and Research in Oregon — a plant breeder renowned for developing open-pollinated varieties for home gardeners. Attractive 2–3 oz red fruits are firm and split-resistant, with excellent flavor for such an early variety, and are produced heavily on dwarf, bushy, determinate plants that are ideal for small gardens, containers, and short-season climates. Ready in just 45–55 days from transplant.

Why Grow Forest Fire?

  • Extra early — 45–55 days, one of the earliest heirloom tomatoes available
  • Firm & split-resistant — 2–3 oz red fruits with excellent flavor for an early variety
  • Dwarf bushy determinate — compact plants ideal for containers & small gardens
  • Heavy bearer — small plants produce abundantly
  • Bred by Tim Peters, an Oregon plant breeder, a public domain open-pollinated variety
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed, spacing plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun. Determinate — plants set fruit over a concentrated period, ideal for canning and preserving. Water consistently. Harvest when the fruits are fully red and firm.
