Early Tanana Heirloom Tomato Seeds

Organic seed for one of the first tomato varieties developed in Alaska. Early Tanana is a cold-tolerant, open-pollinated, determinate variety selected for producing fruit in cooler conditions. It is reported to set fruit when nighttime temperatures are as low as 45°F (about 7°C), making it a useful outdoor choice in the warmer parts of Alaska and other cooler-summer gardens.

Compact, mounded bush plants grow approximately 24–30 inches tall, sometimes reaching around 80 cm (31 inches). They produce clusters of light-red tomatoes around 2–2¼ inches (5–6 cm) across, described as large cherry or small salad tomatoes. The fruit has a mild flavor with little acidic tang.

Early Tanana is also well suited to roomy containers, which can be placed in a sheltered, sunny location or grown under cover where outdoor conditions are too cool. Although tolerant of cooler weather, plants are frost-tender and need protection from freezing temperatures.
