Introduced in Italy in 1890, Di Cicco (Brassica oleracea var. italica) is one of the most vigorous and productive heirloom broccoli varieties available. Very vigorous plants produce heavy crops of 3–4-inch-wide, blue-green central heads with soft green and purple tops on the florets — mild flavor with a crisp texture, excellent in salads, stir-fries, and steamed. After the central head is harvested, Di Cicco delivers outstanding side-shoot production for a continuous extended harvest. Can also be used as sprouting broccoli. Hardy in zones 3–10, frost tolerant, and a standout cool-season performer. Certified Organic. 48–70 days.
Start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost; transplant outdoors when seedlings are 3 inches tall — recommended for cooler climates. For direct sowing, sow ¼ inch deep, 18 inches apart, in rows 18–24 inches apart. Full sun required. Keep soil consistently moist during the first two weeks of germination. Water 1–2 inches per week at ground level — avoid overhead watering. Prefers soil pH of 6.0–6.8. Harvest the central head when 3 inches in diameter and tight — cutting the main head encourages prolific side-shoot production for weeks of continued harvest.

The seeds arrived around the estimated time of arrival. They were well packaged and looked good. I planted a few 3 days ago and I've already got sprouts.
I hope these flowers will grow in North Dakota! The colors are vibrant and hopefully the bees will like them. I will have to wait until after the Big Thaw in April before I can plant them - can't wait!
