Delicious — The World Record Holder for the Largest Tomato Ever Grown

The name says it all — and then some. Delicious is one of the most popular and best-tasting home garden varieties ever developed, and it holds the world record for the largest tomato ever grown at over 7 pounds for a single fruit. Regular leaf plants set loads of huge fruits that typically weigh in the one-pound range — and in the right conditions, they can reach two or three pounds. The fruits are generally smooth-skinned with some ribbing at the top, deep red in color, fairly crack resistant, with solid interiors and very few seeds.

The flavor is superb — sweet, rich, and deeply satisfying, with small seed cavities that maximize the eating experience. An awesome slicing tomato and a genuine conversation piece in any garden. Indeterminate, 75 days.

Why Grow Delicious?

  • World record holder — 7+ pounds for a single fruit, the largest tomato ever grown
  • Typically 1–2 lb fruits — enormous, smooth-skinned, deep red
  • Superb sweet flavor — small seed cavities, sparse cracking
  • Solid, meaty interior — very few seeds, maximizes eating experience
  • Indeterminate — productive through the full season
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed, spacing plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Stake or cage large indeterminate vines. Water consistently and deeply. Harvest when fruits are fully red and give slightly to gentle pressure.
