Growing Notes

Start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost for a spring crop, or in midsummer for a fall/winter harvest. Transplant outdoors when seedlings are 4–6 inches tall, spacing plants 12–18 inches apart in full sun to part shade. Water consistently. Harvest outer leaves regularly for continuous production. Flavor and color peak after the first frost — leave plants in the garden through winter in mild climates.
