Cushaw varieties, often called squash or pumpkins, include the Cushaw Green Striped Squash, which is excellent for baking, especially in pies. This heirloom variety features a long, curved neck, measuring about 10x17 inches, with a white and green rind. Known for its creamy, tender golden flesh and sweet, nutty flavor, it has a rich history in Southern American cuisine.
Commonly referred to as the Green Striped Cushaw Pumpkin, Sweet Potato Pumpkin, Improved Cushaw, or Striped Crookneck, this squash dates back at least 130 years. It grows to about 17 inches in length and can be used in fall displays or as a substitute for pumpkin in recipes. It can also be roasted, mashed, or added to stews. Additionally, the edible seeds, shoots, and flowers can be harvested. The time to maturity is about 100 days to maturity.
