Curled Cress Heirloom Seeds

Add a fresh, peppery bite to sandwiches, salads, and garnishes with Curled Cress. This open-pollinated garden cress produces tender green leaves on upright stems and suits cool-season beds, containers, and indoor microgreen trays with adequate light.

Quick Greens, Harvested Your Way

Snip young microgreens approximately 7–14 days after sowing, or allow plants about 40–50 days to develop mature leaves. Harvest timing depends on temperature, light, and the size of greens you prefer. Curled Cress is garden cress (Lepidium sativum), not watercress, and does not require flowing water.

Growing Notes

  • When to sow: Choose cool spring or fall conditions outdoors. Heat encourages bolting and can make leaves bitter.
  • Light: Full sun to partial shade outdoors; provide adequate light for indoor growth.
  • Garden sowing: Sow shallowly, about ⅛–¼ inch deep, in moist, well-drained soil.
  • Spacing: For leaf harvest, thin to about 4 inches apart. In a square-foot bed, use 9 plants per square foot. Microgreen trays are sown more densely.
  • Moisture: Keep the growing medium evenly moist, not waterlogged.
  • Succession: Sow small batches every 1–2 weeks during suitable conditions rather than relying on one planting for a continuous supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Curled Cress the same as watercress?

No. Garden cress grows in ordinary moist soil or a suitable microgreen medium; watercress is a different plant.

Can I grow it indoors?

Yes, especially for microgreens, provided there is adequate light, moisture, and a suitable temperature. Indoor conditions determine growth, so year-round success is not automatic.

Is it an heirloom?

Yes. Curled Cress is an open-pollinated heirloom, not an F1 hybrid.
