Crimson Sweet (Citrullus lanatus) was released by Kansas State University in 1963 and has become a classic home garden favorite. Nicely manageable 25-pound melons with a striated rind, deep red flesh that is crisp, sweet, and delicious. Famous for its high sugar content and great flavor. High in lycopene. Vines are resistant to anthracnose and fusarium wilt. 80–85 days.
Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Give vines plenty of room to run. Water consistently. Harvest when the belly turns yellow and the tendril nearest the fruit dries.
