This 3-species Brassica Classic Trio Cover Crop Mix combines Daikon Radish (40%), Rapeseed/Canola (30%), and Turnip (30%) into a powerful cool-season cover crop designed to reduce soil compaction, improve drainage, suppress weeds, and produce forage biomass. Ideally sown in late summer or fall to winter-kill naturally at temperatures below 28°F — no termination required. May also be planted in spring to prepare for summer-sown crops. Non-GMO, Open-Pollinated, Annual. 40–60 days to termination.
Note: This mix is not ideal for southern states. Brassicas are cool-season crops that develop best in cool and temperate climates (Zones 2–8). Not intended as ornamental groundcover.
| Daikon Radish | Raphanus sativus | 40% |
| Rapeseed (Canola) | Brassica napus | 30% |
| Turnip | Brassica rapa | 30% |
Winter Kill (preferred for fall planting): All plants winter-kill below 28°F. Sow in late summer or fall and allow frost to terminate naturally.
Till or Turn Under (spring/summer planting): Mow and till or turn under before flowering. Grow for 35–40 days before termination or expected frost.
Clear the growing area of weeds before sowing. Broadcast at 1 lb per 4,356 sq ft (10 lbs/acre) or drill at 1 lb per 5,445 sq ft (8 lbs/acre). Plant up to ½ inch deep; lightly rake into soil. To boost biomass production, fertilize at planting. Optimal growing temperature: 65–75°F. Full sun to partial shade. Germinates in 5–10 days. If growing for grazing, allow enough plant material to establish before grazing — early grazing limits root growth.
