Blue Lake Pole Bean made the Willamette Valley of Oregon famous for canning beans in the 1960s and 1970s — and it has been a benchmark for reliability, disease resistance, flavor, and high yields ever since. Vigorous 7-foot vines produce bright green, stringless pods up to 6–7 inches long with a meaty flavor and tender-crisp texture that make it excellent for canning, freezing, or eating fresh. Gather the beans at their peak for the heartiest, freshest flavor. 75 days.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F. Provide a trellis or support for 7-foot vines before planting. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 4–6 inches apart, in rows 24–30 inches apart. Water consistently. Harvest at 6–7 inches for best flavor and texture. Pick frequently — regular harvesting keeps vines productive all season.
