Apache is a striking scallion developed to satisfy market demand for a vibrant red salad onion that is as beautiful as it is practical. Known for its rich red and purple colors, Apache produces a beautifully elongated pearl shape that peels easily while retaining its vivid hue. The flavor is mild and clean β perfect for salads, sandwiches, and fresh eating β and the lush green tops add dramatic visual appeal to any dish. Harvest early as a purple bunching crop (scallion), or wait for a bulb to begin forming for a beautiful spring onion. Apache can also be overwintered for an early spring harvest. 65 days.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring (4β6 weeks before last frost) or late summer for a fall/overwintered crop. Sow seeds ΒΌ inch deep, 1 inch apart, in rows 12 inches apart. Thin to 2β3 inches apart. Full sun. Keep soil consistently moist. Harvest scallions when tops are 6β8 inches tall, or allow to develop a small bulb for spring onion use. For overwintering, sow in late summer and mulch lightly before frost.
