Fireworks Tomato Heirloom Seeds

Bring the first big tomato slices of the season to your table with Fireworks. This early red slicer pairs full tomato flavor with round, meaty fruit that often finishes in a small pointed tip. Indeterminate vines give the plant room to keep growing and setting fruit while conditions remain favorable, making it a useful choice for supported raised beds and roomy containers.

Why Grow Fireworks?

  • Early slicing tomatoes: Approximately 50–60 days from transplant under favorable conditions, with timing affected by weather and establishment.
  • Substantial red fruit: Commonly described as 6–12 ounces, with size varying through the season.
  • Full tomato flavor: Meaty slices bring garden-fresh flavor to sandwiches, salads, and cooked dishes.
  • Distinctive shape: Red globe-shaped tomatoes may have a small pointed blossom end.
  • Indeterminate growth: Provide sturdy support for vines rather than treating this selection as a compact bush.
  • Open-pollinated heirloom: Save seed from healthy, fully ripe fruit with appropriate isolation and selection.

In the Kitchen

Layer freshly picked slices onto a sandwich, combine with basil in a summer salad, or serve with a little salt to enjoy their tomato flavor. Extra ripe fruit works well in cooked sauces. The ripe fruit is red, not a red-and-yellow striped type.

Planting and Growing

Start seeds indoors approximately 6–8 weeks before your expected transplant date. Sow ¼ inch deep in well-drained seed-starting mix, keep evenly moist, and provide strong light after emergence. Pot on as needed, then harden seedlings off gradually before planting outdoors after frost danger has passed and soil has warmed.

Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Space plants approximately 24–36 inches apart and install a sturdy tall cage, stake, or trellis at planting time. Guide and tie stems as they grow to keep fruit supported and foliage off the soil. For containers, use a roomy pot with drainage and a firmly anchored support.

For square foot gardening, allow 1 plant per 4 sq ft (sturdy support required), with extra canopy room as needed. Water deeply and consistently at soil level, mulch once the soil is warm, and feed according to fertilizer directions. Early maturity is not frost tolerance; protect plants from freezing temperatures.
