Early Stupice Heirloom Tomato Seeds

Bring sweet, balanced tomato flavor to your early-season garden with Stupice. This Czech heirloom produces ruby-red salad tomatoes on potato-leaf plants, a rewarding choice for fresh meals from your backyard. Small to medium 3–6 ounce fruit suits salads, sandwich slices, and fresh salsa.

Why Grow Early Stupice?

  • Early-season appeal: Plan on approximately 52–85 days from transplant, with timing affected by weather and growing conditions.
  • Flavor worth growing: Juicy tomatoes with sweet, balanced flavor brighten everyday fresh meals.
  • Versatile salad tomatoes: Ruby-red fruit commonly weighs 3–6 ounces, with natural variation.
  • Distinctive potato-leaf foliage: Broad leaflets distinguish Stupice from regular-leaf tomato varieties.
  • Semi-determinate habit: A more compact growth pattern with potential for continued picking while conditions remain favorable.
  • Czech heirloom heritage: Open-pollinated seed for gardeners who enjoy growing and saving traditional varieties.

In the Kitchen

Quarter Stupice into a garden salad, slice onto a sandwich, or combine chopped fruit with basil and olive oil for bruschetta. Its balanced flavor also suits fresh salsa and quick sauces when you have more ripe tomatoes than you can eat straight away.

Planting and Growing

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before your intended transplant date. Sow approximately ΒΌ inch deep in seed-starting mix, provide warmth and strong light, and harden seedlings off gradually. Transplant after frost danger has passed and the soil has warmed, into full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.

Space plants approximately 24–36 inches apart. Install a cage or stake early to support fruiting branches. Water consistently at soil level, mulch to conserve moisture, and maintain airflow around the foliage. Allow the semi-determinate plant to develop its branching canopy rather than severely pruning it into a single stem. Protect plants from cold and freezing weather; cooler-summer performance does not mean frost-hardiness.

For square foot gardening, plan on 1 plant per 4 sq ft (cage recommended), allowing room for the branching canopy.
