Burgundy Traveler Tomato Heirloom Seeds

Grow meaty red slicers for summer sandwiches with Burgundy Traveler. This open-pollinated heirloom bears round to slightly flattened tomatoes with an earthy, sweet flavor and juicy flesh. Slice a ripe fruit for lunch or combine your harvest with basil for a simple garden salad.

Why Grow Burgundy Traveler?

  • Substantial red fruit: Commonly described as approximately 6–12 oz, with natural variation in size and shape.
  • Meaty slicing texture: Suitable for sandwiches, salads, platters, and cooked sauces.
  • Earthy, sweet flavor: A rich fresh-eating tomato without claiming superiority over other varieties.
  • Reported heat tolerance: Seed suppliers describe good performance in hot climates, but extreme temperatures can still affect flowering, fruit set, and harvest.
  • Open-pollinated heirloom: Choose approximately 25+ or 50+ seeds per packet.

Planting and Growing

Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your intended transplant date. Sow approximately ΒΌ inch deep in seed-starting mix, provide warmth for germination, and give seedlings strong light. Harden off gradually before planting outdoors after frost danger has passed and soil has warmed.

Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Install sturdy stakes, cages, or a trellis at planting time. Water consistently at soil level and mulch to conserve moisture. Maintain airflow and healthy foliage to help protect developing fruit; heat tolerance does not eliminate normal care needs.

For square foot gardening, use 1 plant per sq ft (trellis required) with dedicated vertical training and regular pruning. Allow more room for caged or multi-stemmed plants.

Harvest Details
