Wando (Pisum sativum) was released in 1943 with much fanfare — unlike most peas, it tolerates both heat and cold, making it the most versatile English shelling pea available. Compact 18–30-inch plants need no staking. Pods are 3–4 inches with 6–8 dark green peas and a delicate sweet flavor when young. Excellent for freezing. Grows successfully in every region of the United States. 60 days.
Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost, or sow late in the season to extend harvest. Plant 1 inch deep, 6 inches apart in full sun. No staking needed. Harvest when pods are filled but still bright green.
