Mammoth Melting Sugar — The Best Edible-Pod Snow Pea, Stringless & Irresistibly Sweet

Mammoth Melting Sugar is widely regarded as one of the best edible-podded peas available — and the name says it all. Extra-large pods are delectably sweet, tender, and completely stringless, offering a satisfying crunch whether eaten raw straight from the vine, stir-fried, or lightly steamed. Vigorous vines grow 5–6 feet tall and produce abundantly over a long season, delivering a continuous harvest from a single planting. Large white flowers add a beautiful splash of brightness to the edible landscape. 66 days.

Why Grow Mammoth Melting Sugar?

  • One of the best edible-pod peas — widely recognized for exceptional sweetness and tenderness
  • Completely stringless — no prep needed, eat straight from the vine
  • Extra-large pods — impressive size with satisfying crunch
  • Continuous harvest over a long season — the more you pick, the more it produces
  • Beautiful large white flowers — ornamental and edible landscape value
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost when soil is at least 45°F. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 6 inches apart, in full sun. Provide a trellis or support — vines reach 5–6 feet. Water consistently. Harvest when pods are fully developed and tender. Pick regularly — the more you harvest, the more the plant produces. Avoid pulling vines when harvesting; hold the vine with one hand and pick with the other.
