Lincoln Homesteader is the shelling pea that keeps producing when others give up. Extremely prolific and early, these plants produce a high yield of 3–4 inch pods that are very easy to shell — dark green peas with excellent quality and flavor that are outstanding fresh, frozen, or canned. What sets Lincoln apart from most shelling peas is its notable heat tolerance — it continues to perform well in warm weather conditions that cause other varieties to stall. Compact plants reach 25–30 inches tall and just 5 inches wide when trellised, or can be grown in bushier form with little to no support.
A dual-season performer: 58–65 days in spring/summer, 65–75 days in fall/winter.
Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost in spring, or in late summer for a fall crop. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 2–3 inches apart, in rows 18 inches apart. Provide a trellis for vine form or allow to bush freely. Water consistently. Harvest pods when plump and filled out for best flavor. Pick frequently to encourage continued production.
