Amish Snap Pea was being grown in Amish communities long before present-day snap pea types were ever developed β a testament to just how good this variety really is. Vigorous 5β6 foot vines are covered in medium-sized, 2β3 inch translucent green pods with a sweet, crisp flavor that is delicate and delicious even as the seeds develop inside. Yields abundantly over six or more weeks when kept picked regularly, making it one of the most productive snap peas for the home garden.
Pick them young for the sweetest snap, or let them fill out β either way, Amish Snap Peas deliver a harvest that keeps coming.
Direct sow outdoors 4β6 weeks before last frost β peas prefer cool soil and will germinate in temperatures as low as 40Β°F. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 2β3 inches apart, in rows 18β24 inches apart. Provide a trellis or support for 5β6 foot vines. Water consistently. Pick pods regularly to encourage continuous production β leaving pods on the vine slows new production. Can also be sown in late summer for a fall harvest.
