Ishikura Improved Japanese Bunching, Onion,

The bunching onion "Ishikura" is a great variety that does not bulb but grows long white stalks. A perennial type that is cold, hardy, and adaptable to various climates is suitable for late crops and overwintering. Ishikura is quick to mature and vigorous. It can be harvested from May to October if sown from March to July. Because it has a long harvest period, there is not any waste. So, unlike standard types, there is no need to sow every three weeks for a continuous crop. This extremely versatile onion can be harvested for use at any time. The leaves are used in salads, or the whole plant can be pulled. Pencil-thin stems can be used for spring onions or left to grow as thick as a carrot without losing their flavor. The long, white, tender stems can be obtained by applying the earthing-up method during growth. THEY DO GREAT IN CONTAINERS. (Allium fistulosum)
