Minusinsk Lion (Lycopersicon lycopersicum) combines impressive fruit size with early ripening — a remarkable achievement for a beefsteak-class tomato. Named after Minusinsk, a Siberian city that served as an intellectual haven for anti-tsarist exiles in the 1880s, this variety produces ~1 lb fruits (sometimes larger) with a rich, sweet flavor that slices beautifully for sandwiches. Resistant to blossom end rot. Determinate.
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun. Cage or stake. Water consistently. Harvest when fruits are fully colored and slightly soft.
