Dancing With Smurfs is a delicious and unique indigo cherry tomato — and one of the best-tasting varieties in the indigo group. Indeterminate plants produce loads of purple-black cherry tomatoes with a built-in ripeness indicator: the fruits turn from purple-black to red at the base when perfectly ripe, taking all the guesswork out of harvest. The striking purple-black color comes from anthocyanin — a powerful antioxidant with many health-promoting properties. Disease-resistant plants develop a beautiful purple blush and grow easily to 6 feet, producing prolifically through the season. 65–70 days.
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed, spacing plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Stake or cage indeterminate vines — plants reach 6 feet. Water consistently. Harvest when fruits show red coloring at the base — the built-in ripeness indicator.
