Burbank (Lycopersicon lycopersicum) was developed by the legendary horticulturist Luther Burbank around 1915 — and it was the only variety he raised specifically for canning. Stocky determinate plants reach 30–36 inches and produce heavy yields of majestic 3–4 inch, 6–8 oz fruits with very deep red color and a traditional bold tomato flavor. Tested with some of the highest levels of amino acids of any tomato variety. Rare. 70 days.
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun. Cage or stake. Water consistently. Harvest when fruits are fully red and firm. 70 days from transplant.
