Pingtung Long (Solanum melongena) originates from Ping Tung, Taiwan — a slender, elegant heirloom producing 12–18-inch fruits just 1.25 inches wide in various shades of purple. Sweet and tender with absolutely no bitter taste — no skinning or pre-salting necessary. The excellent mild flavor goes straight into any dish. Very dependable even in Zone 9 heat. 65 days.
Start indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Space plants 18–24 inches apart. Water consistently. Harvest by cutting the stem 1 inch from the fruit when fruits reach desired size — do not pull.
