Palace Pride F1, Hybrid Cucumber Seeds — The Japanese Sooyow Cucumber With Deep-Ridged Glossy Fruits, Golden Blooms, and Exceptional Disease Resistance

Palace Pride F1 (Cucumis sativus ‘Palace Pride’) is a premium Japanese sooyow-type cucumber — also known as Japanese Cucumber — that yields a prolific crop of 9–11 inch fruits with deep ridges, glossy dark green skin, and a relatively small seed cavity. White spines are easy to remove by washing — no peeling required. Mild and sweet with a divinely crisp texture. Heat tolerant and perfect for the home garden. Pollinators love the golden blooms. Resistant to downy mildew, cucumber scab, CMV, angular leaf spot, anthracnose, and powdery mildew. F1 Hybrid. 55–60 days.

Why Grow Palace Pride F1?

  • Japanese sooyow type — deep-ridged, glossy dark green 9–11 inch fruits with small seed cavity
  • No peeling required — white spines wash off easily; eat straight from the vine
  • Exceptional disease resistance — downy mildew, scab, CMV, angular leaf spot, anthracnose, and powdery mildew
  • Heat tolerant — performs well in warm summer conditions
  • Golden blooms attract pollinators — beautiful and functional in the garden
  • Prolific and versatile — ideal for gourmet Japanese dishes, cold salads, pickling, and Asian cuisine

In the Kitchen

Palace Pride cucumbers are often featured in gourmet Japanese dishes. Ideal for cold cucumber salads, pickled or lightly cooked in Asian dishes, sushi rolls, and Vietnamese fresh rolls. Making these into bread and butter pickles is especially delicious. Slice thin for salads or cut into spears for fresh snacking — the crisp texture and mild sweetness make them universally loved.

Growing Notes

Direct sow after last frost when soil temperature is 60–90°F, or start indoors 2–3 weeks before last frost for cucumbers 2–3 weeks earlier. Harden off transplants for 1–2 weeks before moving outdoors. Sow ½ inch deep, 12–18 inches apart in rows 16–24 inches apart in fertile, moist, well-draining soil in full sun to part shade. Trellis or train up a fence to improve air circulation, fruit uniformity, and ease of harvest. Keep area weed-free. Fertilize when first blooms appear and periodically throughout the season. Mulch at the base to retain soil moisture during hot weather. Water consistently — never let soil go dry. Harvest at 9–11 inches while firm; harvest frequently to encourage continued production.
