Mizuna Lime Streaks (Brassica rapa var. japonica) is a standout variety in the mesclun tradition — a traditional Asian vegetable that has become an essential component of the French-made Mesclun Mix (Spring Mix), lending its bright lime-green, deeply serrated leaves beautifully to baby spinach, dandelion greens, and radicchio. Hardy and cool-weather loving, Lime Streaks germinates in just 3–7 days and is ready for harvest in 30–45 days. A cut-and-come-again crop: harvest large outer leaves while allowing smaller leaves to continue maturing. Excellent in containers and small gardens.
Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost, or start indoors for transplanting. Sow 5–6 seeds ¼ inch deep, 6–8 inches apart in fertile, well-draining soil in full sun to part shade. Thin to 1 plant every 12–18 inches once true leaves establish. Provide shade in warm gardens during hot summer months. Harvest large outer leaves while allowing smaller leaves to continue maturing.
