Kentucky Wonder Brown, Pole Bean,

Kentucky Wonder Beans have been the standard for pole beans since the 1800s. They are versatile and can be enjoyed fresh, cooked, frozen, canned, or dried. This variety consistently out-produces other pole beans and can endure hotter climates. You can expect a heavy production of rich and flavorful 6"-9" oval pods. The beans are stringless and tender when harvested young. To ensure continued production, it's best to harvest often. Kentucky Wonder beans are very versatile and can grow in various conditions, producing generous yields.

Many gardeners prefer pole beans for their distinctive "beany" flavor. They also free up horizontal rows in the vegetable garden for other varieties while providing abundant harvests. They are easier to harvest than bush beans. It's recommended to direct-sow after all danger of frost and to keep sowing at 3-week intervals until late spring for the best harvest. For fall crops, begin in late summer and continue until a month before the first frost date. The 5- to 8-foot vines should be supported on a trellis, tower, or poles spaced 3 feet apart.
