Big tomato flavor in a bite-sized plum: Cherry Roma brings a lively sweet-spicy balance to garden snacking, salads, and homemade dried tomatoes. Its small red fruits grow to about 1 inch long, pairing a firm, meaty texture with the easy-to-eat size of a cherry tomato. Pick a handful for lunch, then save some for roasting or drying to concentrate their flavor.
Start indoors 6β8 weeks before your intended transplant date. Sow approximately ΒΌ inch deep in seed-starting mix, provide warmth and strong light, and harden off gradually. Transplant after frost danger has passed and the soil has warmed. Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.
Support vines with a sturdy cage, stakes, or a trellis. Water consistently at soil level, mulch to conserve moisture, and allow airflow around the foliage. Pick ripe fruit regularly while leaving developing clusters supported by the vine.
For square foot gardening, use 1 plant per sq ft (trellis required) with dedicated vertical training and regular pruning. Allow more canopy space for caged or multi-stemmed plants.
Maturity: Approximately 75β80 days from transplant; conditions affect timing.
Fruit: Red, small plum-shaped tomatoes, about 1 inch long with natural variation.
Growth habit: Indeterminate; sturdy support required.
Botanical name: Solanum lycopersicum.
Life cycle: Frost-tender warm-season annual.
Packet options: Approximately 25 or 50 seeds.
Harvest when fruit is fully red and yields slightly to gentle pressure. Use fresh for snacking and salads, or roast, dry, and cook into small-batch sauces.
