Planters Jumbo (Cucumis melo) is the product of the Clemson, South Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station, developed under Dr. Morris Hughes and first offered to gardeners in 1954. Melons weigh 4–5 pounds with a thick, protective rind and light ribbing. The flesh is orange, juicy, and contains a relatively small seed cavity. 85 days.

Why Grow Planters Jumbo?

  • 1954 Clemson University heirloom — developed by Dr. Morris Hughes at the SC Agricultural Experiment Station

  • Juicy orange flesh — sweet and flavorful
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year
