Pimento, Sweet Pepper Seeds — The Heart-Shaped Heirloom Built for Flavor

The pimento is the pepper that defined a condiment, stuffed an olive, and earned a permanent place in the Southern kitchen — and for good reason. This classic heart-shaped heirloom produces small to medium, deeply lobed fruits with exceptionally thick, sweet flesh and a rich, concentrated flavor that intensifies beautifully when roasted or dried. The skin peels away easily after roasting, revealing a tender, jewel-red interior that is sweeter and more complex than any bell pepper you’ve tasted.

Compact and prolific, Pimento is an excellent container variety that rewards consistent care with generous yields of these distinctive, flavorful fruits through the season.

Why Grow Pimento?

  • Classic heart-shaped heirloom — the original pimento pepper, prized for centuries
  • Exceptionally thick, sweet flesh — richer and more complex than standard bell peppers
  • Perfect for roasting and preserving — skin peels easily, flesh holds its shape
  • Compact plants — excellent for containers and small-space gardens
  • Open-pollinated — save seed year after year
  • Non-GMO, USA-grown seeds

Growing Notes

Start indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed, spacing plants 18 inches apart or 1 per container in full sun. Water consistently. Allow fruits to ripen fully to red for peak sweetness and roasting quality.
