New Mama is a landmark in open-pollinated corn breeding — one of the first truly super sweet (sh2) varieties that is not a hybrid. Medium to large, well-filled ears with yellow kernels that hold their sweetness long after picking, giving home gardeners the extended harvest window usually only available from hybrid super sweets. An OSSI-pledged open-source variety, freely available to all growers in perpetuity.
This is an Open Source Seed Initiative variety. The breeder has freely given up patent rights to keep this variety in the public domain forever. “You have the freedom to use these OSSI-pledged seeds in any way you choose. In return, you pledge not to restrict others’ use of these seeds or their derivatives, by patents or other means, and to include this pledge in any transfer of these seeds or their derivatives.”
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 65°F — sh2 super sweet varieties require warmer soil than standard sweet corn for reliable germination. Plant in blocks of at least 4×4 for good wind pollination. Isolate from other corn types to prevent cross-pollination, which reduces sweetness. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 8–12 inches apart, in rows 30–36 inches apart.

The seeds arrived around the estimated time of arrival. They were well packaged and looked good. I planted a few 3 days ago and I've already got sprouts.
I hope these flowers will grow in North Dakota! The colors are vibrant and hopefully the bees will like them. I will have to wait until after the Big Thaw in April before I can plant them - can't wait!
