Little Gem is widely regarded as one of the very best-tasting lettuces in existence — a miniature green romaine with a blanched, thick, sweet heart that is a genuine gourmet treat. Compact heads are about 4 inches across and prime eating from 4–6 inches tall, making them perfectly sized for individual salads and ideal for small-space gardens, window boxes, and containers. A superb heat-tolerant variety that holds up far longer than most lettuces in warm weather. Excellent for kids — the small, sweet heads are fun to grow and easy to harvest. 33–50 days.
Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost in spring, or 6–8 weeks before first frost in fall. Scatter seeds on the soil surface and press in lightly — lettuce needs light to germinate. Thin to 6 inches apart. Full sun to part shade. Keep soil consistently moist. Harvest heads when 4–6 inches tall for best flavor and texture.
