Bulls Blood
An older cultivar is known for its sweet, stunningly beautiful dark red-purple tops and remarkable flavor. It leaves very hardy and excellent in salad mix—dark red roots of good sweetness and quality. For salad mix, directly sow very thickly and cut in about 28 days. Should regrow for another cutting if kept moist and well fertilized. Tops 35 days, roots 55 days.
Detroit Dark Red
This fine mid-season variety has a rich, dark-red interior and a uniform 3" shape. An early variety, Detroit Dark Red beets store well and are suitable for canning and freezing. The dark green leaves, striped with red, are lovely braised or in salads. 59-70 Days.
Lutz Long Season Beet
Lutz Long Season Beet (a.k.a. Winter Keeper, Lutz Green Leaf) grows very large, but no matter how big they get, they do not get tough or woody even at an enormous size. The large roots are very sweet, and whether the beets are young or old, small or large, they remain tender all summer and fall, keep in fine condition all winter, and have an unmatched old-time flavor. One of the best heirloom beets for long-term storage. An old variety that was popular with the Amish and Mennonites for generations. 80 Days.
Golden Detroit
Golden Detroit Beets are round, and their orange roots stay gold-yellow when cooked. They have a very sweet taste even when large. This is a beautiful beet that won't bleed like red beets. It has the same texture and flavor as red beets without the red juice. The greens are delicious, too. They have good bolt resistance and store well. 55 days.
Cylindra
Cylindrical shaped, dark red roots, 5 to 8 inches long and 2 inches thick. Sweet, tender, very easy to grow, and great for slicing. These beet leaves are a little sweeter than other beets and are very lovely as salad greens. Produces more in the same space. Perfect for container gardening or raised beds. 59-70 Days.
