Introduced in 1973 by W. Atlee Burpee from genetic material supplied by Dr. Oved Shifress of Rutgers University, Golden Zucchini is the only open-pollinated yellow zucchini available — and it is genuinely exceptional. Delicious, crisp, glossy golden-yellow cylindrical fruits are produced on prolific compact bush plants with a distinctive zucchini flavor that is sweeter than the green varieties. Best harvested at 6–8 inches, when the flavor is at its peak and the texture is smooth and nutty — perfect grilled or roasted with other summertime vegetables. Ready in 54 days.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds 1 inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Space plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Water consistently. Harvest at 6–8 inches for best flavor — pick frequently for continuous production.
