Cherokee Purple is one of the most beloved heirloom tomatoes in America — and one taste tells you why. This Tennessee heritage variety produces 10–12 oz beefsteak-style fruits with a distinctive dusky rose-purple exterior and deep brick-red interior, highlighted by green gel around small seed pockets. The flesh is dense, juicy, and exceptionally flavorful — sweet and rich with a complexity that makes it a perennial favorite at farmers markets and on the plates of chefs who know their tomatoes. Green “shoulders” on top are the classic hallmark of this variety.
Productive indeterminate plants deliver generous yields of these stunning fruits through the season. 75 days.
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed, spacing plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Stake or cage tall indeterminate vines. Water consistently and deeply. Harvest when fruits are fully colored and give slightly to gentle pressure.
