Black Valentine, Heirloom Dry Bush Bean Seeds — The Dual-Purpose Heirloom That Tolerates Cool Temperatures

Black Valentine is an old heirloom bean suitable for early planting and grown for its versatility as either a snap bean or a dry bean. Bush habit produces loads of super dark green beans that are tender, meaty, and stringless — excellent as fresh green beans or dried for soups and cooking. Known to tolerate cooler temperatures than most varieties and to do well under adverse conditions. For dry beans, leave pods on the vine to dry and pick when you can hear the beans rattle inside the pods. 70–100 days.

Why Grow Black Valentine?

  • Dual-purpose — excellent snap bean or dry bean
  • Tolerates cooler temperatures — suitable for early planting
  • Super dark green, tender, meaty, stringless pods
  • Does well under adverse conditions — reliable and resilient
  • Old heirloom — a proven classic
  • Open-pollinated — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors — tolerates cooler temperatures for early planting. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 2–3 inches apart, in rows 18–24 inches apart. Full sun. Water consistently. Harvest as snap beans at 55–60 days, or leave pods on the vine to dry at 70–100 days until beans rattle inside.
