Ailsa Craig, Onion,
Ailsa Craig is a large, globe-shaped onion with golden, straw-colored skin and produces huge bulbs. The excellent keeping qualities and mild flavor make it a superb variety for the home gardener. The skin is a pale yellow, and the flesh is relatively mild and sweet, so it is recommended for fresh use. Ailsa Craig has a distinct advantage over regular Spanish varieties of earliness and excellent weather tolerance. Introduced in 1887 by David Murray, gardener for the Marquis of Ailsa, at Culzean Castle in Maybole, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Long day type.
