Kentucky Wonder has been the standard for pole beans since the 1800s — versatile, reliable, and consistently out-producing other pole beans in a wide range of conditions. Expect a heavy production of rich and flavorful 6–9 inch oval pods that are stringless and tender when harvested young. Excellent fresh, cooked, frozen, canned, or dried. The 5–8 foot vines should be supported on a trellis, tower, or poles spaced 3 feet apart. Harvest often to ensure continued production. A beloved American heirloom that has earned its place in kitchen gardens for over 150 years.
Direct sow after all danger of frost. Succession sow at 3-week intervals until late spring for best harvest. For fall crops, begin in late summer until a month before first frost. Support 5–8 foot vines on a trellis, tower, or poles 3 feet apart. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 4–6 inches apart. Water consistently. Harvest often for continued production.
