Kyoto Kujo Negi, Bunching Onion,
Kyoto Kujo Negi, this non-bulbing Japanese green onion, is one of the Kyo yasai, or traditional vegetables in the Kyoto region. It has been a part of that cuisine since the Edo period of the early 1800s. The tender leaf tapers to a height of 24", modulating in color from white to light green, then dark green. It has a nice mild flavor. Keep soil moist and fertilize as needed. Longer white stems can be achieved by mounding the earth up over the stems to blanch them. Bunching onions may be harvested from microgreen to full maturity at any stage. It can be used fresh in salads or garnished in soup, stir-fries, or other cooked dishes. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Allium fistulosum. 80 days to maturity.
