Festivity, Sweet Corn,

Festivity Sweet Corn presents a beautiful range of colors at the sweet-eating stage, only intensifying as the ears mature. Developed in Oregon, Jonathan Spero of Lupine Knoll Farm created this variety for growers with excellent, low-fertility soils in higher latitudes. It is cold-tolerant, open-pollinated, rainbow-colored, multi-stalked, frequently 3-4 ears per plant. Created with excellent soil, higher latitude locations, and low fertility in mind. Most cobs have a blend of white, yellow, red, and purple kernels: fast producing, about 90 days from seed to eating cobs.

Farmer Jonathan Spero crossed ancient Anasazi multi-colored sweet corn with modern corn, then spent seven years selecting and stabilizing this open-pollinated variety. He strove for excellent eating quality while leaving the plants a bit variable. He explained, " When people depended on their gardens for their food, variability was an important trait. They needed crops with various adaptations to get food and seed for the next year despite floods, drought, storm, disease, and pest pressures." Mr. Spero bred this corn as a dependable food that people could grow and save seed for themselves. He pledged it as an OSSI open-source variety.
