Carentan leeks are an excellent addition to dishes that need an extra oniony zest. Tender white stems grow 8.5 inches long and 2 inches wide. The leaves are a medium-dark green. Leeks hail from northern Europe, where they are a cherished staple. The Carentan leek came to the United States in the 1800s and became commercially available in the 1880s. Leeks are grown from non-GMO heirloom Carentan leeks and are a great source of vitamins A, C, and K. Vitamin A helps protect the eyes from age-related decline.
